Anyone who has made a personal decision to put their faith in Jesus and follow Him should be baptized. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus, and baptism is the public declaration of the decision we’ve already made in our hearts to follow Him.

Jesus calls His followers to be baptized, and He modeled baptism for us Himself. Baptism is an act of obedience and a public declaration that we belong to Jesus. It symbolizes His death, burial, and resurrection and the new life we now have in Him.

We honor the decision your parents or family made to dedicate you to God as a child. However, at Garden City, we practice baptism after a person has personally made the decision to follow Jesus.

If you were baptized as an infant and have since made your own decision to follow Christ, we encourage you to consider being baptized as a personal declaration of your faith.

Yes! We love seeing young people make the decision to follow Jesus. Because baptism is a personal declaration of faith, we want to make sure children understand who Jesus is, what it means to follow Him, and what baptism represents.

No. You don’t have to be a member of Garden City Church to be baptized. If you’ve made the decision to follow Jesus and understand what baptism represents, we would be honored to celebrate this next step with you.

Expect a celebration! 🎉 Baptism is a big deal at Garden City because we’re celebrating what Jesus has done in your life.

Before Baptism Sunday, our team will communicate everything you need to know, including when to arrive and where to go. When it’s time to be baptized, one of our pastors or ministry leaders will help you into the water, briefly celebrate your decision to follow Jesus, and baptize you in water.

And yes, your Garden City family is going to celebrate with you!

Wear something comfortable that you don’t mind getting completely wet. We recommend darker clothing and ask that you avoid anything that could become transparent when wet.

Bring a towel, a complete change of clothes, and anything else you’ll need to get ready afterward. We’ll send you specific instructions before Baptism Sunday so you know exactly what to expect.
